“ Amazing little spot in Guerneville. Don't let the name fool you. No congee here. "Jook" is the African-American vernacular term for an informal establishment featuring music, dancing, gambling, and drinking, primarily operated by African Americans in the southeastern United States Featuring BBQ and southern cooking, you can find something for everyone. I got the pork ribs with sides of red beans and rice and assorted greens. The entrees come with a side of cornbread waffle and special butter. Omg. Talk about mouthgasm. A plate of three ribs with two sides and waffles will set you back $25. I actually split it with a friend and it was just enough! My other friend got the beef ribs with sides. It had an amazing smoky flavor with tender meat. There are two buckets of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, all of them are $3. I opted for a can of locally brewed IPA. The friendly waiter brought out our meals in a timely manner. Highly recommend! ”
“ I'm local to the area and have frequented Saucy Mama's over the past couple years. The food is always exceptional and the ambiance is the best in Guerneville. Family friendly! My wife and I spontaneously came here with our baby the day after Christmas to have a break from our own kitchen and to enjoy the festive scene inside Saucy Mama's. We were excited to find the restaurant open and we were welcomed in by the owner, despite the establishment being short on staff (December 26th and all...) We watched the perfectly quaint dining area turn into a bustling dinner rush which would have been a feat to serve with even a full staff. We sat near the front door and we witnessed the owner(s) and front of house staff accommodate each new guest as best as was possible with such clear and kind communication! The owner operators and their service team are always a highlight, but watching the professionalism and gratitude they conveyed amidst a stressful situation made me proud to have this establishment in our little town and I wanted to share the experience. Saucy Mama's is a stellar restaurant run by great people! Go support them. ”
“ What a cool and memorable place! We were in the area and I recommended it to my fiancée because it had good ratings and I can definitely see why. We both loved the decor. The food and the service were absolutely amazing, they are very attentive and welcoming here I had such a hard time deciding what to order because everything sounded so good. We ordered three different things even though we know we can't eat that much lol but now we have some bomb leftovers to look forward to. Next time we're close by, I'm definitely stopping again to eat here. ”
“ Soul food that really hit the spot, and we had to snag a 4:30 reservation for dinner. We were a group of twelve though, so you might have an easier time booking. Cozy place with lots of autumnal decoration, and the service was attentive and speedy despite how busy they were. Saucy Mama herself came by to check on us a few times too! Chicken crackling was a great start to the meal and the whole plate disappeared so quickly. Dunk them in Crystal hot sauce! Pork ribs were well done here, and I liked them more than the fried chicken with some kind of crumb breading. Sides were solid, loved our mac n' cheese, black-eyes peas, collard greens (so much ham hock), and okra. The waffles were surprisingly the letdown, a little stale, and mostly a vehicle for the brown sugar butter. ”
“ We had a fabulous time and a wonderful meal. All the meats were moist and flavorful! Okra was fried perfect and the Mac n cheese was creamy and delicious. They were busy on this Sunday night so we were glad we had d a reservation. They were hopping but still made sure we were taken care of. ”
“ The beginning of our experience here was a bit awkward, but the evening ended well. We arrived with a group of two adults and two teenage boys. The hostess's first question was do you have a reservation, followed by a pause after we said no. The fact that it was 5:00 pm and a mostly empty dining room made it feel odd and awkward when our "no reservation" wasn't immediately responded to with a "no problem, we can seat you, welcome..." After we were seated, our waiter was very friendly, welcoming and helpful. We came because we wanted to give our teen boys a hearty meal before dropping them off for the weekend at a nearby BSA camp. Saucy Mama's did not disappoint. I ordered the fried chicken which came with two sides. I chose the macaroni and cheese and the succotash. I've never had succotash before, but I probably would choose something else next time. I just personally don't care for rosemary as a seasoning except very sparingly on a pork roast or something like that. The mac and cheese sauce was good. The chicken was well seasoned and very tender. The cornbread waffle was delicious when eaten with the cinnamon butter it came with (although I had to ask for an extra serving of the butter.) The others at the table had tri tip sandwiches, which got a thumbs up and was devoured by my teen son. My friends son got the Yabba Dabba beef rib, which is one giant meaty bone. He enjoyed it very much. We also had the sweet potato fries which also got a thumbs up. One other thing to note is that the dining room is pretty dark. They do have little portable table lights at each table, but ours ran out of power twice during our meal and had to be replaced. I imagine this might be more problematic if the restaurant was busier and you couldn't just grab another off of a nearby empty table. Other than that I would definitely recommend this place for a good meal (but maybe make a reservation if it's during the prime dining hours.) ”
“ The most of the food was good soul food. The pork ribs were tender and the BBQ sauce was perfect with the ribs. We really liked the riblets and the sauce it was smothered in was so good, slightly different than the BBQ sauce. Mac & cheese was creamy and flavorful. The collard greens were done perfectly and not too salty. The fried chicken was ok nothing special. The only thing I wish was better was the cornbread waffle, it was dry and the red rice & bean was more bean than rice. Service took a while and it was hard we had little ones that were hungry. The Hostess/Owner was wonderful. Ambiance felt more adult atmosohere then family oriented, but it could be the time we came. If you have little ones, make a reservation for a table with chairs. We got a table with semi high stools, because the tables were reserved. It was hard for the kids to sit on them. All and all we would eat there again maybe for lunch would be better if you have little ones. ”
“ Our favorite dinner in Guerneville! We had made a reservation in advance, which I highly recommend doing because they were actively turning people away all evening. The interior had a rustic vibe, with cool Edison bulb lighting fixtures. Every staff member we interacted with was very sweet, although they were clearly swamped. For drinks, I got an Arnold Palmer, which was very tasty, but they also had a full bar. For food, I chose the Buttermilk Fried Chicken with double Mac & Cheese and a Cornbread Waffle (which comes with each entree). The Buttermilk Fried Chicken was ridiculously good - flavorful, not dry at all. The Mac & Cheese was also fantastic! The Cornbread Waffle was a little bit dry and came with a comically tiny amount of Crack Butter. The flavor of the Crack Butter was so tasty, but there wasn't nearly enough of it. My friends loved their food as well, including the BBQ Pork Ribs, BBQ Chicken, and Hotlink. The BBQ Chicken wasn't quite as moist as the Buttermilk Fried Chicken, but still very tasty. Portion sizes were generous and I ended up with leftovers to bring home. Overall, great for dinner - would return! ”
